Burt Reynolds’ final film appearance before his death in September 2018 was ‘The Last Movie Star’. Adam Rifkin wrote and directed The Last Movie Star, a 2017 American drama movie. The film featured Burt Reynolds, Ariel Winter, Clark Duke, Ellar Coltrane, and Chevy Chase.

On April 22, 2017, the film made its global premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. On February 22, 2018, it premiered on DirecTV Cinema, before being released in restricted theatres and on video on demand by A24 on March 30, 2018.

In Nashville, an aging movie star is invited to a small, local film festival. He attends and embarks on a journey through his history as he comes to terms with the idea that his glory days are over. It took around seven years for filmmaker Adam Rifkin to get funding for the picture, according to him. Rifkin had written the film with Burt Reynolds in mind for the starring role, with many aspects of the main character’s life eerily identical to Reynolds’ own. On May 9, 2016, principal photography began. The majority of the movie was filmed in Knoxville, Tennessee.

At the 2017 San Diego International Film Festival, the film Dog Years won the Chairman’s Award. At the 2018 Edmonton International Film Festival, it was also won Best International Dramatic Feature.
