Burton Leon Reynolds Jr., better known as Burt Reynolds, was an American actor, director, and producer of cinema and television who was regarded as an icon of American popular culture. He was born on February 11, 1936.

Rifkin had written the film with Burt Reynolds in mind for the starring role, with many aspects of the main character’s life eerily identical to Reynolds’ own. On May 9, 2016, principal photography began. The majority of the movie was filmed in Knoxville, Tennessee.
At the 2017 San Diego International Film Festival, the film Dog Years won the Chairman’s Award. At the 2018 Edmonton International Film Festival, it was also won Best International Dramatic Feature.
