Which is the first Die Hard movie?

Die Hard is a 1988 Hollywood action movie written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza and directed by John McTiernan. It stars Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Alexander Godunov, and Bonnie Bedelia and is based on Roderick Thorp’s 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever.

It features New York City police detective John McClane (Willis), who is visiting his divorced wife when he is caught up in a terrorist takeover of a Los Angeles tower. Reginald VelJohnson, William Atherton, Paul Gleason, and Hart Bochner appeared in the supporting roles.

This movie has been re-evaluated by critics and is now regarded as one of the best action pictures of all time, as well as one of the best Christmas films. It resurrected the action genre, owing to its portrayal of McClane as a vulnerable and fallible hero, as opposed to the muscle-bound and invincible heroes of other films at the time.

Retrospective commentators have also highlighted and studied the film’s thematic concerns, which include retribution, masculinity, gender roles, and American concerns about foreign influences. The film spawned a slew of knockoffs, with “Die Hard” becoming a catchphrase for scenarios involving overwhelming odds in a constrained setting, such as ‘Die Hard on a bus.’

Die Hard 2 (1990), Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), Live Free or Die Hard (2007), and A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) are among the sequels, as well as video games, comics, and other goods. Die Hard was chosen for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2017 after being deemed ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically important’ by the United States Library of Congress.
