The Two Towers was released in 2002, while The Return of the King was released in 2003.

The Fellowship of the Ring was co-financed and distributed by New Line Cinema in the United States, but it was wholly shot and edited in Jackson’s native New Zealand, with the other two parts of the trilogy. It had its global debut at the Odeon Leicester Square in London on December 10, 2001, and was distributed theatrically worldwide on December 19, 2001.

It was the second highest-grossing movie of 2001, and the fifth highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release, grossing $880 million worldwide. It has made approximately $897 million as of 2021, thanks to further reissues. The film won multiple honors and was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards at the 74th Academy Awards.
