John Wick is a 2014 American action thriller movie written by Derek Kolstad and directed by Chad Stahelski. The film starred Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.
John Wick (Reeves) is on the hunt for the individuals who came into his house, stole his antique automobile, and killed his dog, which was the last gift from his recently deceased wife. The film was co-directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, yet only Stahelski was given credit.
Kolstad finished the screenplay in 2012 and worked on it further for Thunder Road Pictures. Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, Leitch, Eva Longoria, and Michael Witherill produced the picture. After many credits as second-unit directors and stunt coordinators, Stahelski and Leitch make their directing debut as a duo. They previously performed as stunt doubles for Reeves in the Matrix trilogy.
The movie received good reviews, with critics hailing Reeves’ performance as one of his best and one of the best action pictures of 2014. It made $86 million globally on a $20–30 million production budget. In 2017, a sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, was released, and it received similar critical and financial acclaim.
