Jessica Michelle Chastain, an American actress and film producer, was born on March 24, 1977. She has received numerous awards and nominations for her parts in films with feminist themes, including a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards and two British Academy Film Awards. In 2012, Time magazine named her one of the world’s 100 most important people.
Chastain is the founder of Freckle Films, a production company dedicated to promoting diversity in film. She is an outspoken advocate for mental health, as well as gender and racial equality. She is married to Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, a fashion executive, with whom she has two children. Chastain, who was born and reared in Sacramento, California, has always had a passion for acting. She made her professional stage debut as Juliet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in 1998. She was signed to a talent holding deal with television producer John Wells after studying acting at the Juilliard School.
Chastain made her cinematic debut with the drama Jolene (2008) and went on to star in a half-dozen films in 2011, including the dramas, Take Shelter and The Tree of Life. Her work in ‘The Help’ as an aspiring socialite garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Jolene is a 2008 American drama film directed by Dan Ireland and based on E. L. Doctorow’s story ‘Jolene: A Life.’ Jessica Chastain made her film debut in this flick. It had its world premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival on June 13, 2008, and was released in the United States on October 29, 2010.
