Wonder Woman is a 2017 American superhero movie made by DC Films in collaboration with RatPac Entertainment and Tencent Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel, was released in December 2020.
It is part of the DC Extended Universe’s fourth installment (DCEU). Patty Jenkins directs Wonder Woman, which stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya and is based on a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and a story by Heinberg, Zack Snyder, and Jason Fuchs.
Following her debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, this is Wonder Woman’s second live-action theatrical picture. After American pilot and spy Steve Trevor crash-lands on their island Themyscira and informs her of World War I, Amazon princess Diana sets out to halt it, believing the conflict was initiated by Ares, the Amazons’ longtime enemy.
Wonder Woman had its international debut in Shanghai on May 15, 2017, and Warner Bros. Pictures released it in 4DX, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D in the United States on June 2, 2017. Positive reviews were given to the picture, which praised the directing, acting, visuals, action sequences, and musical score.
It earned over $821 million worldwide, making it the tenth highest-grossing film of 2017 and the highest-grossing film directed by a single woman until Hi, Mom overtook it. It was named one of the best ten films of 2017 by the American Film Institute, and it won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2018.
