Sonia Khanna, who lives with her widowed and ailing mother and is unable to make even a middle-class living, has yet another hurdle when she must get her mother hospitalized as well as come up with the money for medical expenses. She finds work as a governess for widower Chaudhary Ranjit Singh’s children in Ooty, but he prefers someone more mature. So she dresses up as an older woman, goes by the name Savitri, and gets a job.
