Khaali Peeli is a Hindi-language masala film starring Ishaan Khatter, Ananya Panday, and Jaideep Ahlawat that will be released in 2020. Maqbool Khan directs Khaali Peeli, which is produced by Ali Abbas Zafar, Zee Studios, and Offside Entertainment. Yash Keswani and Sima Agarwal collaborated on the script.
Principal production began on September 11, 2019, and the film will be completed in March 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film’s initial release date of June 12, 2020, has been postponed. On October 2, 2020, Khaali Peeli will be published digitally on Zee Plex using a pay-per-view model.
The song “Beyonce Sharma Jaayegi” was panned online for having racist lyrics. The song has been compared to Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ with Rolling Stone India pointing out that although Beyoncé is promoting racial empowerment through her song, the Bollywood song names her and says she will be ’embarrassed by fair-skinned Ananya Panday’s dancing skills.’
Khaali Peeli was set to be launched in cinemas globally on June 11, 2020, until the COVID-19 epidemic forced a postponement due to cinema closures. The creators sold their rights to the new PVOD platform Zee Plex in August 2020. It was released in Gurugram and Bengaluru drive-in theatres at the same time.
