Jug Jugg Jeeyo Movie Review: A Laugh Riot with a tangled storyline

Jug Jugg Jeeyo Cast: Neetu Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Varun Dhawan, Maniesh Paul, Tisca Chopra and Prajakta Koli

Director: Raj Mehta

Rating: 2.5 stars (out of 5)

Jug Jugg Jeeyo is a family drama that attempts to be a full-on marital comedy but is unable to find any form of rhythm. It tells the story of three marriages—one that has been together for 35 years, another that is five years old, and a third that is only days away from getting married. All three of them are plagued with complications brought on by errors, uncertainties, and disasters.

If that seems like a ridiculous ordeal that may cause a laugh riot, just a small portion of it is really exploited. Produced by Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios, Jugjugg Jeeyo makes use of colourful settings, loud music, high-pitched speech, and a perplexing storyline to tell a tale about the difficulties of drifting couples.

If one were to be kind, one could say that the confusing ways of the story are an approximation of the perplexities that the characters experience. They can’t seem to agree on the usefulness of the institution as they weigh the advantages and disadvantages of marriage. Both the script and certainty escape them.

Thankfully, that’s not the fate of the main actors, including Prajakta Kohli, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Singh, who is making her long-awaited comeback to the industry, and Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kiara Advani. They do a good job of keeping up with a film that doesn’t allow for breaks. The ensemble appears to be having fun as the story advances at a breakneck pace. The story is somewhat influenced by their ongoing ebullience.

An ageing father and his son are the subjects of Raj Mehta’s film Jug Jugg Jeeyo, which was written by Rishhabh Sharma, Anurag Singh, Sumit Batheja, and Neeraj Udhawani. Even when their daughter or sister is about to get married, their marriages face difficulties. The family gathers in their Patiala house for the wedding, but there are many secrets that are kept there that will eventually come to light.

A couple trying to create a child was the subject of Raj Mehta’s prior film, Good Newwz (2019), also from the Dharma Productions stable. Jug Jugg Jeeyo, which shares the same tone and texture as his debut film, is about two couples who are struggling to keep their marriages together. However, the extended family does not miss an opportunity to remind the younger married woman that it is time for her to have children, much to her dismay.
