The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a 2010 fantasy adventure film based on C. S. Lewis’s fantasy book The Chronicles of Narnia‘s third novel, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952). (and 5th in internal chronological order). It is the third and last installment in the original Chronicles of Narnia film series, as well as the series’ first Digital 3D release. It’s also the only picture in the series that doesn’t have Walt Disney Pictures as a distributor; instead, 20th Century Fox takes over. Following the Disney-Fox merger in 2019, Disney would eventually control the rights to all of the films in the series.
Three Narnian years have passed since the events of Prince Caspian. Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley), the two youngest Pevensie siblings, are transported back to Narnia with their cousin Eustace Scrubb (Will Poulter).
They join Caspian (Ben Barnes), the new king of Narnia, on his quest to redeem Narnia from a corrupting evil that lurks on a dark island by rescuing seven forgotten lords. As they go to Aslan’s (Liam Neeson) home at the extreme end of the world, each character is put to the test.
In North America, the picture was a middling success, grossing $104 million, which was lower than its predecessors. With $310 million, it outperformed Prince Caspian on the worldwide stage. With approximately $415 million in the international box office, the picture was the 12th highest-grossing movie of 2010, earning a Golden Globe nomination.
