Moviefied Exclusive: Imtiaz Ali Says Actors Bringing Their “Whole Villages” to Sets Is Distracting: “The Simpler We Keep It, The Better It’s Going To Be”

In an exclusive conversation with Moviefied, acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali opened up about how the growing culture of entourages on film sets can negatively impact actors, especially newcomers trying to find their footing in the industry.

Speaking candidly, the director shared that actors today can often get “very disturbed” by the sheer number of people constantly surrounding them on sets. According to him, actors sometimes need space to sit with their own thoughts, emotions, and creative instincts without distractions.

Imtiaz remarked that when some actors arrive on set, “their whole villages come along with them,” adding that while it may work for some, it can become a “corrupting influence” for young actors who are only beginning their journey in cinema.

Praising rising stars Vedang Raina and Sharvari for being “wise,” the filmmaker hinted that simplicity and focus are equally important factors behind an actor’s success. He further summed up his philosophy by saying, “The simpler we keep it, the better it’s going to be.”

During the interaction, Imtiaz Ali was also asked whether he has ever had to deal with unreasonable demands from actors and how he handled such situations, leading to another honest and insightful take from the celebrated director – he said something’s I notice & feel it can be little damaging. The mechanism becomes bigger & cost is going to things that are not appreciated on screen.
Video from this candid conversation drops soon exclusively on Moviefied — stay tuned for more unfiltered insights from Imtiaz Ali.
