How is the movie, Detective Pikachu?

Rob Letterman directed the 2019 mystery film Pokémon Detective Pikachu. The movie is a loose adaptation of the 2016 video game Detective Pikachu, which is based on the Pokémon series. It was written by Letterman, Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit, and Derek Connolly, and produced by Legendary Pictures and Toho, based on a story by Hernandez, Samit, and Nicole Perlman. It was the first live-action Pokémon film since Super Mario Bros., as well as the first live-action film based on a Nintendo game franchise (1993).

Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Suki Waterhouse, Omar Chaparro, Chris Geere, Ken Watanabe, and Bill Nighy serve as Pikachu’s voice and face motion capture. The plot follows Tim Goodman, a former Pokémon trainer, and the Pokémon animals as they try to figure out what happened to Tim’s father, Harry.

Filming took place in Colorado, England, and Scotland from January to May 2018. Detective Pikachu was released in RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX formats in Japan on May 3, 2019, and in the United States on May 10, 2019.

It’s the first Pokémon flick to be released in theatres in the United States since Pokémon Heroes (2003), and Warner Bros.’ first since Pokémon 3. (2001). The film garnered mixed reviews, with praise for being a faithful adaptation of a video game that will appeal to aficionados. The film grossed $433 million worldwide. After Warcraft, which was also produced by Legendary Pictures, it is the second-highest-grossing video game film adaptation.
