Which is the debut film of Will Smith?

Will Smith made his cinematic debut in the film adaptation of John Guare’s popular stage drama Six Degrees of Separation (1993). Six Degrees of Separation is a comedy-drama film directed by Fred Schepisi and released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1993. It is based on John Guare’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated 1990 play of the same name.

The narrative of the movie was based on the true story of David Hampton, a con artist, and robber who in the 1980s convinced several individuals that he was the son of actor Sidney Poitier. Hampton visited Inger McCabe Elliott and her husband Osborn Elliott in their New York apartment in October 1983, and they permitted him to spend the night there.

Louisa ‘Ouisa’ Kittredge (Donald Sutherland) and John Flanders “Flan” Kittredge (Donald Sutherland) are upper-class private art dealers in New York who are both arrogant and empathetic. A double-sided Kandinsky is their prized possession: one side represents control, while the other depicts anarchy. They tell their colleagues and acquaintances about an experience with a young black stranger who came knocking on their door one evening while they were wooing Geoffrey Miller (Sir Ian McKellen), a powerful investor who could make them wealthy beyond their wildest dreams.

Paul Poitier (Will Smith), a young man who had recently arrived in the city, was mugged outside their building and suffered a small knife wound to the abdomen. He is the son of actor and director Sidney Poitier and was a friend of the Kittredges’ children who are Harvard students. Paul will meet up with his father tomorrow, who is in town directing a “Cats” film.

Apart from the allure of persuading Paul to cast them in the film, Ouisa, Flan, and Geoffrey are all charmed by Paul’s charm, charisma, pedigree, and eloquence. The Kittredges ask him to remain the night after ministering to his wounds. Their interaction with him turns into an all-too-familiar scenario, prompting them to go on the hunt for him the next morning after he departs their residence. In her search, Ouisa, in particular, begins to examine their lives critically and determine how much compassion they truly possess.
