Marilyn Monroe lived on Catalina Island for a time. Santa Catalina Island is a rocky island in the Gulf of Santa Catalina off the coast of Southern California. Her marriages to Joe DiMaggio, a retired baseball player, and Arthur Miller, a playwright, were both highly known and ended in divorce. She died of an overdose of barbiturates in her Los Angeles residence on August 4, 1962, at the age of 36. Her death was determined to be a suicide.
