Bappi Lahiri laid to rest, nation bids adieu to the Disco King with teary eyes

Bollywood’s ‘Disco King’ Bappi Lahiri, who brought disco flavor to Indian cinema back in the 80s and 90s, passed away at the age of 69. The last rites of the legendary musician were held today (Thursday) at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle.

In an official statement released on Wednesday by Bappi Da’s family mentioned, the final rites will be performed after his son Bappa Lahiri will reach Mumbai from Los Angeles. As Bappa Lahiri reached India in the wee hour’s Disco King’s final journey began at around 10 am with family, friends, and industry colleagues in attendance.

Photographs and videos from Bappi Lahiri’s residence and crematorium went viral on the Internet. Alka Yagnik, Vidya Balan, Ila Arun, Shakti Kapoor, Rupali Ganguly, Sophie Choudhary, Mika Singh, and Nikhil Dwivedi were among the celebs who were present at the crematorium during the funeral to offer last tributes to the singer.

Bappi Da’s family, including wife Chitrani, daughter Reema and son Bappa boarded the open truck along. Bappa performed the last rites. His, daughter Reema seemed inconsolable.

Bappi Lahiri was best known for deleviring iconic songs like I am a Disco Dancer, Yaad Aa Raha Hai, Humko Aaj Kal Hain Intezaar, Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re, Pag Ghoongroo, Raat Baaki, Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost, among several others.
He is survived by his wife Chitrani Lahiri and two children- son Bappa Lahiri and daughter Reema Lahiri.
