Circus Movie Review: The movie directed by Rohit Shetty and starring Ranveer Singh is a chaotic uproar

Rohit Shetty’s comedy entertainer Circus starring Ranveer Singh is a faded copy of Gulzar’s ‘Angoor.’

Director: Rohit Shetty

Cast: Ranveer Singh, Varun Sharma, Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez

Runtime: 139 minutes

Ratings: 2.5/ 5 Stars

Movie Review:

The script may lend itself better to mellow situational humour, boosted by music and performers, than Rohit Shetty’s overdone slapstick. Although we are aware that Rohit takes comedy literally, he frequently infuses it with unrelenting scatological humour that causes us to suspend our disbelief and common sense. Here, all we get is a string of predictable slaps that are more comical in sound than in meaning. Sanjay Mishra makes a valiant effort to make people laugh, but there are only two or three genuine belly laughs throughout the entire film. The same is true of Johnny Lever’s entrance scene, which disappoints after promising a riot. Although Siddharth Jadhav has a greater arc, nothing about it is as horrifying as his hairstyle.

Rohit uses a variety of Bollywood clichés, such Kali pahadi and Rai Sahib, to elicit chuckles, but the jokes don’t truly land. Varun, who plays Ranveer’s sidekick brother, is continuously unfunny and off-color. As the love interests of the identical twins, Jacqueline Fernandez and Pooja Hegde are merely there for decorative value, much like the glittering sets that sparkle brightly but rarely offer any substance to the on-show buffoonery. Even the circus backdrop has not been used effectively to maintain the children’s interest.

When Mishra runs out of alliterations, he refers to the proceedings as “Ooty ki ootpatang” at one point. Cirkus is an irresponsible commotion in Ooty. It is preferable to curl up in a comforter and watch the antics of Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma on television once more unless someone else is paying for the ticket.

Cirkus is currently playing in theatres.
