Hollywood movie in which robots attack Chicago?

Alex Proyas directed I, Robot, a 2004 American science fiction action film. Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman wrote the script based on Vintar’s original screenplay Hardwired, which was inspired by Isaac Asimov’s 1950 short-story collection of the same name. Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood, James Cromwell, Chi McBride, and Alan Tudyk star in the movie.

In the future world of 2035, extremely intelligent robots assume public service posts around the dismal society, following three laws to keep humans safe. Del Spooner (Smith) investigates the purported suicide of U.S. Robotics founder Alfred Lanning (Cromwell) and believes he was murdered by a humanoid robot (Tudyk).

I, Robot was released on July 16, 2004, in the United States, and between July and October 2004 in other countries. The picture grossed $346 million worldwide on a $120 million budget and garnered mixed reviews from critics, with acclaim for the visual effects and acting but criticism for the plot. The film was nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 77th Academy Awards but lost to Spider-Man 2.

I, Robot

It’s the year 2035, and we’ve arrived at the year 2035. Every person on the planet is reliant on a vast network of robots that have been programmed to assist people rather than harm them in any manner. However, one person does not believe that robots are beneficial. Del Spooner is a murder detective in Chicago.

However, he received a call from United States Robotics (USR) one day informing him of the death of renowned robot scientist Dr. Alfred J. Laning. Spooner instantly blamed the incident on robots, without providing any evidence or justification. Then he starts looking into Lanning’s demise, only to come across Sonny, a ‘one-of-a-kind’ robot. Something is about to happen, which Spooner is unaware of. Something beyond Spooner’s wildest imagination.

I, Robot earned $144.8 million in the United States and Canada, and $202.4 million in other regions, for a global total of $347.2 million on a $120 million production budget. The film was released in North America on July 16, 2004, and grossed $52.2 million in its debut weekend, placing it top at the box office. On August 6, 2004, the film was released in the United Kingdom, and it topped the country’s box office that weekend.
