Brendan James Fraser is a Canadian-born American actor. He starred in several comedic and fantasy movies, including Airheads, Dudley Do-Right, Monkey bone, Inkheart, and Furry Vengeance, as Rick O’Connell in The Mummy trilogy. He is popularly known for his role in The Mummy movie.

Stephen Sommers wrote and directed The Mummy, a 1999 American action movie. It stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Kevin J. O’Connor, as well as Arnold Vosloo in the titular role as the reanimated mummy, and is a remake of the 1932 film of the same name. Rick O’Connell, an adventurer, journeys to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, with a librarian and her older brother, where they unintentionally awaken Imhotep, a cursed high priest with extraordinary abilities.

The movie took years to develop, with numerous draughts and filmmakers involved. Stephen Sommers’ rendition of a more adventurous and romantic take on the source material was successfully presented in 1997. The crew battled thirst, sandstorms, and snakes while filming on location in the Sahara desert in Morocco and the United Kingdom.

It was a commercial triumph, grossing approximately $416.4 million worldwide on an $80 million production budget. The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2001) were direct sequels to the film’s success (2008). It has spawned spinoffs such as an animated series and the prequel The Scorpion King (2002), both of which spawned sequels. A 2017 film was released as a result of attempts to revive the property and launch a new media franchise.
