Unhinged is a 2020 American action thriller film based on a script by Carl Ellsworth which was directed by Derrick Borte. Russell Crowe, Caren Pistorius, Gabriel Bateman, Jimmi Simpson, and Austin P. McKenzie starred in the film. Following a road rage incident, it depicts the story of a young woman who is terrorized by a mentally ill stranger.
Solstice Studios distributed Unhinged in theatres in Germany on July 16, 2020, and in the United States on August 21, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the picture was significant for being the first wide theatre release in several months, grossing $44 million globally. Critics gave it mixed reviews, praising Crowe’s performance but believing the movie didn’t fully exploit its subject.
Tom Cooper, a vindictive psychopath, is parked outside his ex-house-wife on a rainy night. He takes off his wedding band before lighting a match and a bottle of hydrocodone while staring blankly at it. Tom smashes into the house with a hammer and a tank of gasoline, killing her and her lover and setting the house on fire. As he drives away, expressionless, it explodes.
On November 23, 2020, Altitude Film released Unhinged on DVD and Blu-ray in the United Kingdom. VVS Films will release it in Canada on November 17, 2020. Unhinged generated $43.2 million worldwide, with $20.8 million in the United States and Canada and $22.4 million in other markets.
