In which South Korean movie husband cheats his wife with a housemaid?

Im Sang-Soo directed The Housemaid, a 2010 South Korean melodramatic erotic thriller film. The plot follows Eun-Yi, played by Jeon Do-Yeon, who works as a housemaid for an upper-class family and becomes entangled in a tragic love triangle.

Lee Jung-Jae, Seo Woo, and Youn Yuh-Jung are among the other cast members. The film is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name by Kim Ki-young. At the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, it competed for the Palme d’Or.

An impoverished Korean woman named Eun-Yi (Jeon Do-Yeon) works as a domestic helper in the sumptuous home of Hoon Goh (Lee Jung-Jae), a handsome businessman whose wife Hae-Ra (Seo Woo) is pregnant. Eun-Yi rapidly learns the ways of the house — and that Hoon’s word is a law — under the guidance of her new employer, lifelong employee, and familial confidant Byung-Sik (Youn Yuh-Jung). When Eun-Yi lets Hoon seduce her, however, the advantages of her new status are outweighed by the consequences of her actions.

The Housemaid

Kim Soo-Hyun wrote an early draft of the screenplay, but after director Im Sang-soo significantly modified the script to the point where Kim believed it was solely I work, m’s she chose to leave the project and publicly aired her unhappiness. Although the film features several major themes from Kim Ki-1960 young’s film The Housemaid, Im has stated that he attempted not to think about it throughout production to create a modern and unique work.

On May 13, 2010, the film premiered in South Korea. It was released by Sidus FNH and launched on 679 screens, topping the box office chart for the first weekend with $5.7 million in revenue.
