The Old Guard, based on Greg Rucka’s comic book of the same name, is a 2020 American superhero film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka. Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, Van Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor star in the thriller, which follows a group of immortal mercenaries on a quest for vengeance.
The Old Guard is available on Netflix from July 10, 2020. Critics praised the action sequences and Theron’s acting, and it earned mostly excellent reviews. A sequel is in the works, with Victoria Mahoney set to direct. Skydance Media acquired the rights to adapt Greg Rucka’s comic The Old Guard, written by him and illustrated by Leandro Fernandez, into a film in March 2017. A key scene showing the romance between the comic book characters Joe and Nicky had to be included in the film adaptation, according to Rucka’s contract.
