Zachary David Alexander Efron is an American actor and musician who was born on October 18, 1987. He started acting professionally in the early 2000s and rose to fame in the late 2000s as Troy Bolton in the High School Musical trilogy (2006–2008). He also appeared in the musical film Hairspray (2007) and the comedic flick 17 Again at this time (2009). Melinda’s World, directed by David Baumgarten and starring Zac Efron, is a 2003 film adaptation of Marianne Kennedy’s novel.

Melinda (Jenifer Olivares), the eleven-year-old daughter of sour parents (Christina Raines and Thomas Michael Kappler), finds interest in simple things like a spun silver spiderweb, her box of treasures, and an afternoon at Silver Lake on her ‘day of days’ set in the 1950s American Midwest. Alice Wasser, Melinda’s best friend, refers to her as a ‘silly goose’ (Jennifer McClusky). Melinda has ageless pleasures and sufferings as the film goes.

Eliot Bradley (Chad Stevens), a stranded college professor, enters her life, as does Ruth de Sosa, a warmhearted waitress who exposes Melinda to the blues and Coca-Cola. Stuart Wasser, a playful boy, is the one who pays her the first exploratory attention (Zac Efron). The death of her beloved Aunt Calla (Mary McKowen) sets off a chain of events that culminates in her father’s enraged drunkenness, destroying Melinda’s innocence forever and sending her fleeing into the night. Melinda’s spirit reaches its pinnacle when she revisits her treasure box with bittersweet recollections at the end of the year.
