Which movie was Heath Ledger filming when he died?

Heath Andrew Ledger, an Australian actor and music video director, was born on April 4, 1979. Ledger relocated to the United States in 1998 to advance his film career after appearing in various Australian television and picture productions during the 1990s.

Ledger had finished nearly half of his final movie part as Tony in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus when he died on January 22, 2008. Terry Gilliam directed and wrote the fantasy picture ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’, which was released in 2009. The story follows a traveling theatre troupe whose leader, after wagering with the Devil, sends audience members via a magical mirror to explore their imaginations and provide them with a choice between self-fulfilling insight and pleasurable ignorance.

The role of Heath Ledger was recast, with Depp, Law, and Farrell portraying various incarnations of Ledger’s character as he wanders through a dream world; the picture was dedicated to Ledger and co-producer William Vince.

The movie had its international debut outside of competition at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. The film, which cost $30 million to produce, made more than $60 million in theatres throughout the world. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus received two Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction (art directed by Dave Warren and Anastasia Masaro, and set embellished by Caroline Smith; lost to Avatar) and Best Costume Design (lost to Avatar).
