Returning to her role as Guddu Pandit’s (Ali Fazal) sister, Dimpy, in the second season of the popular criminal drama Mirzapur, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on October 23, was like a journey down memory lane for Bollywood actress Harshita Gaur.
The young actress stated in a Zoom interview that she has had a strong connection to the location since she was a kid. “My maternal grandfather was born in Deoria, a place near Mirzapur.” He grew up there with his siblings but later relocated to Punjab. However, I recall going to Mirzapur with my family during our summer holidays as a kid.
I’ve seen firearms at their house since I was a child, and I’ve heard several stories about it. My maternal grandmother was fighting an illegal land grabbing lawsuit at the time, so we were advised not to go there. So, even if what is represented in the series is not the case, I was aware of what was going on in the neighborhood.
Nonetheless, such stories left an impression on me as a child that Mirzapur was a place where all of these tragedies occurred or could occur. So that’s my link to Mirzapur, and it’s why working there brought back some memories.”
Mirzapur 2 is one of the most keenly anticipated Indian internet series of the year. Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) and his son Munna, a gang boss, are at the center of the story (Divyendu Sharma). It emphasizes the dominance of mafia gangs, as well as the competitiveness and lawlessness that prevail in this Uttar Pradesh region.
Guddu, along with Sweety’s (Guddu’s fiancee) sister Golu (Shweta Tripathi) and Guddu’s sister, was shot and escaped into hiding. “In season 2, there will be revenge,” Harshita said, “but every character will be learning about themselves throughout the show.” As the story progresses, the layers of each character will be peeled away.
We didn’t make it a straight-up vengeance drama since the plot delves deeper into the lives of characters as they struggle with their inner sorrow and try to sort themselves out.”
Mirzapur 2 features a stellar cast that includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, and Sheeba Chaddha, to name a few. Harshita compared working with these celebs like going to acting school.
“It was a dream come true to work with such incredible performers.” I’ve respected their work since I was in college, so working with them was an honor. It’s amazing to witness them in action.
