Who is Babita Shivdasani?

Babita Hari Shivdasani, popularly known as Babita or Babita Kapoor, was an Indian actress who worked in Hindi cinema. She was born on April 20, 1947. She is the first cousin of Sadhana Shivdasani, a current actress. She is the daughter of actor Hari Shivdasani.

Babita Shivdasani was born in Bombay to Sindhi Hindu actor Hari Shivdasani and a British Christian mother, Barbara Shivdasani. In the 1960s, her sister, Meena Advani, worked as her costume designer and was essential in her becoming a fashion star.

Her first film, Dus Lakh (1966), was a triumph, but it was the romantic thriller Raaz (1967), in which she co-starred with Rajesh Khanna, that cemented her reputation. She starred as the lead heroine in nineteen films between 1966 and 1973, including box office hits Dus Lakh (1966), Farz (1967), Haseena Maan Jayegi, Kismat (both 1968), Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati (1969), and Doli (1969), among others.

She starred in Jeet and Ek Hasina Do Diwane after marrying actor Randhir Kapoor in 1971. (both in 1972). Her next film, Sone Ke Hath (1973), was a flop, and she decided to leave the industry. Karishma and Kareena, both actors, are the couple’s daughters. Even though they were still legally married and had no intention of divorce, she and Randhir lived in different residences for several years. After living apart for several years, the couple reconciled in 2007.
