What are Hollywood movie swords made of?

Sword replicas can be made as a one-of-a-kind replica of a single historical sword, such as one commissioned by a museum, or in series, based on a specific word, a specific historical type of sword, or an original design loosely based on historical precedents. Functional quality reproductions, especially when built-in series, can cost anywhere from USD/EUR 1,000 to 2,000, while low-cost factory-made swords can cost anywhere from USD/EUR 50 to 200.

The product does not need to be able to resist the physical stress of actual use in the case of decorative copies, resulting in a reduced cost. In jargon, such decorative look-alikes are referred to as ‘sword-like objects’ (or SLOs), especially when they are wrongly sold.

Carbon steel alloys are used in all historical sword blades, but many replicas are not. Choosing a blade material sometimes has less to do with its performance and more to do with the convenience of manufacture or marketing.

Sword

Consumer display swords are usually replica swords. Blades are frequently pressed or cut from steel blanks with insufficient taper. Shortcuts are frequently taken with the blade tang and hilt fittings, resulting in the blade not being correctly counterbalanced. This frequently results in a sword that is both heavier and more blade heavy in terms of balance than its historical counterpart.

Sword reproductions are widely distributed and marketed throughout the world, even in nations where weapons are prohibited. As a result, even low-end ornamental swords can be utilized in thefts and assaults.
