Which Hollywood movie has featured the Ferguson riots?

Whose Streets? is a 2017 American documentary movie about Michael Brown’s death and the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri. Whose Streets?, directed by Sabaah Folayan and co-directed by Damon Davis, premiered in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival before being released in theatres in August 2017, on the first anniversary of Brown’s death. The film received Critics’ Choice and Gotham Independent Film Awards.

Folayan, Davis, and team cinematographer Lucas Alvarado Farrar started working on the film in 2014, when Folayan and Farrar visited Ferguson, Missouri, during the protests and riots that erupted after police officer Darren Wilson killed Michael Brown.

A succession of Sundance Institute programs, including the Documentary Edit and Story Lab, the Music & Sound Design Lab: Documentary, and the Creative Producing Summit, chose the project for production funding. The MacArthur Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Tribeca Film Institute all contributed to the project.

The documentary film focuses on seven primary personalities, including Tory Russell, the cofounder of Hands Up United, Brittany Ferrell, a nurse, and young mother, and David Whitt, a civilian recruiter for Cop Watch.
Magnolia Pictures bought the movie for distribution in February 2017, with a summer release planned for the third anniversary of Michael Brown’s death. The film was released on August 11, 2017.
