She was born in Newark, New Jersey, and signed with Tommy Boy Records in 1989. On November 28, 1989, she released her debut album All Hail the Queen, which included the hit track ‘Ladies First.’ Her second and final album with Tommy Boy Records was Nature of a Sista’ (1991).

Jungle Fever was Queen Latifah’s big-screen début in 1991. Stranger than Fiction is a fantasy comedy-drama movie directed by Marc Forster, produced by Lindsay Doran, and written by Zach Helm. It was released in 2006 in the United States. Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, and Emma Thompson star in the picture.

The basic plot concerns Harold Crick (Ferrell), an IRS agent who starts hearing a disembodied voice describing his life as it unfolds – ostensibly the text of a novel in which it is indicated that he, the main character, would shortly die – and frantically tries to prevent that conclusion.

The movie, which was shot on location in Chicago, has received critical acclaim for its inventive, clever story and excellent performances. Ferrell, who rose to fame for his loud comedy roles, received special praise for his controlled portrayal in his first leading tragic role. Columbia Pictures released Stranger than Fiction on November 10, 2006. The picture garnered great reviews upon its initial release, owing to its topics, humor, and acting.
