Minions: The Rise of Gru, popularly known as Minions 2, is a computer-animated comedy movie directed by Illumination Entertainment and released by Universal Pictures. It is the fifth installment in the Despicable Me franchise and the sequel to the spin-off prequel Minions (2015). Kyle Balda directs the picture, which also features Brad Abelson and Jonathan del Val as co-directors. Steve Carell reprises his role as Gru.
Universal Pictures is set to release Minions: The Rise of Gru in theatres in the United States on July 1, 2022. A 12-year-old Gru is growing up in the suburbs immediately after the 2015 film, this time in the heart of the 1970s.
Universal Pictures and Illumination announced the sequel to their animated picture Minions in August 2015. In July 2017, Brad Ableson was added as a co-director to the project. The title of the film was revealed in May 2019 as Minions: The Rise of Gru. Following the brief shutdown of Illumination Mac Guff, production of the film shifted to remote work during the COVID-19 outbreak.
As part of an 18-month arrangement, Minions: The Rise of Gru will be available to stream on Universal’s Peacock website four months after its theatrical premiere.
