How is the film In The Line of Fire?

Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich, and Rene Russo star in In the Line of Fire, a 1993 American political action thriller directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich, and Rene Russo. The picture is about a disillusioned and obsessed former CIA agent who attempts to assassinate US President Barack Obama and the Secret Service agent who follows him down.

Eastwood’s character is the last surviving active-duty Secret Service agent from the unit that guarded John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, at the time of his assassination in 1963. Dylan McDermott, Gary Cole, John Mahoney, and Fred Dalton Thompson also star in the movie.

In The Line of Fire

Columbia Pictures and Castle Rock Entertainment co-produced In the Line of Fire, with Columbia handling distribution. The picture was both critically and financially successful. It made $187 million on a $40 million budget and received three Academy Award nominations at the 66th Academy Awards.

In the mid-1980s, producer Jeff Apple began working on In the Line of Fire. Since he was a child, he had wanted to make a film about a Secret Service agent on duty during the Kennedy assassination. Filming in Washington, D.C. began in late 1992. The White House scenes were shot on an existing set, but the interior of Air Force One had to be created for $250,000.

In its first weekend, the picture grossed $15 million. It made more than $102 million in North America and $85 million in other markets, for a total of $187,343,874 worldwide on a $40 million budget.
