The Plot:
Rehan, a meticulous and seasoned con man, is hired by Rajan Aulakh to steal the Red Sun- an African diamond often called the ‘Kohinoor of Africa.’ What follows is a cat-and-mouse chase between Rehan and the police. How will he execute this mission and eliminate his enemies at the same time forms the basic premise of the film.
The performances:
The performances are largely in sync with the uneven script. Saif does what Saif does- charming, effortless, but nothing you haven’t seen before. Nikita Dutta barely gets anything to work with, and you can’t help but feel a little sorry for Kunal Kapoor, stuck in a thankless role. The only real spark comes from Jaideep Ahlawat, who commands the screen every time he appears. There’s something magnetic about him-he pulls you in, even when the script loses grip.
Writing and Direction:
It’s hard to say if the makers were having fun or just clueless – maybe both. What’s certain is the dialogues are painfully bad, evoking flashbacks of Nadaniyaan and Badass Ravikumar (okay, not Badass, that was fun). This feels like a lost Abbas-Mustan script awkwardly rewired into something no one wanted. The melodrama hits absurd levels – at one point, Saif tells his dad, “You don’t understand me,” to justify being a thief. Yes, that’s real.
The Action:
The film fails to deliver even in the action department. With its all-style-no-substance approach, you’d expect at least some solid set pieces – but no. It’s everything you’ve already seen a dozen times before. A few forgettable hand-to-hand fights, some clumsy chase scenes, and a generous sprinkle of poorly rendered CGI. Boom! Enjoy your action movie, said the makers – probably.
Final Verdict:
The legendary Sunil Gavaskar, recently in the commentary box, simply said, “STUPID, STUPID STUPID.” That’s it!
