Renowned Malayalam actor Pradeep KR, Known popularly as Kottayam Pradeep, breathed his last on Thursday morning after suffering a massive heart attack. The actor was admitted at a private hospital around 3 am on Thursday after he complained of uneasiness. Around an hour later, he passed away in a hospital in Kottayam. He was 61.
Prithviraj Sukumaran confirmed the actor’s demise on Twitter and paid his tribute. Sharing Pradeep’s photo, he wrote, “Rest in peace, Kottayam Pradeep!”
Kottayam Pradeep made his acting debut in films in 2001, at the age of 40. He mostly donned comedy roles and acted in more than 70 films. Before making an acting debut in films, he had been active in theatre for the last five decades. He was also an employee at the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India.
Kottayam Pradeep was first seen in Ee Nadu Enale Vare, which was directed by IV Sasi.
Some of his prominent works include Kunjiramayanam, Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeevi Aanu, Life of Josutty, Amar Akbar Antony among others. In 2016, he also won the award for Best Supporting actor for several roles at the 2nd Asianet Comedy Awards.
Pradeep also won the Best Supporting actor for various roles at the 2nd Asianet Comedy Awards 2016. He is survived by his wife Maya and two children- Vrinda Pradeep and Vishnu Siva Pradeep.
