What is the full form of IMDb?

IMDb (Internet Movie Database) is a website that contains information on millions of movies and television shows, as well as their cast and crew. The name comes from the acronym IMDb, which stands for Internet Movie Database. Even after becoming an Amazon company, IMDb maintained its independence and identity.

It is situated in Seattle as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amazon.com, while Col Needham, the founder, and CEO, maintains his office in Bristol, England, where the Web site was launched.

Needham, an English software programmer and cinema fan, started IMDb by compiling a record of all the movies he had viewed since 1980. Needham posted his movie-listing software to a USENET film discussion group on October 17, 1990, which is when it was officially founded. The site was expanded collaboratively and was an early migrant to the World Wide Web.

IMDb

IMDb.com was founded in January 1996, and Amazon.com bought it two years later. Amazon, an online bookstore that was growing its product line at the time, planned to leverage IMDb as a platform for VHS and DVD sales. Even after becoming an Amazon company, IMDb maintained its independence and identity. Needham retained his position as CEO.

The original objective of the IMDb site was to index credits in film and television productions, but it went beyond that. Studio and other companies affiliated with the picture, release dates in various countries, censor classifications, box-office grosses, accolades won, and other information may now be included in a film’s entry.

There are also extensive pages for actors, directors, writers, and others involved in film and television productions. Photos, movies, and trailers for upcoming attractions are among the contributions.
