Drishyam 2: The Resumption, or simply Drishyam 2, is a crime thriller film written and directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor through his firm Aashirvad Cinemas in the year 2021.
The film stars Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil and is a sequel to their 2013 film Drishyam. The story is set six years after Drishyam’s events. When the production of his other film, Ram, was halted owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jeethu created the script for Drishyam 2.
Thodupuzha takes place in the same places as Drishyam, with some sequences set in Kochi. The songs and score were written by Anil Johnson. The cinematography was handled by Satheesh Kurup, and the editing was done by V. S. Vinayak.
The producers originally intended for the film to be released in theatres, but they eventually decided to release it through the streaming site Amazon Prime Video. The film received tremendous critical acclaim when it was released worldwide on February 19, 2021, with many appreciating the narration style and performances, particularly those of Mohanlal. Under the direction of Joseph, the film is being remade in Telugu as Drushyam 2.
With its Amazon Prime release, Drishyam 2, which was developed on a budget of Rs 20 crore, has raked in a total of Rs 40 crore and a profit of Rs 20 crore, which is unquestionably outstanding. According to reports, the digital rights of Drishyam 2 were sold to an OTT company for Rs 25 crore, while Asia Network paid Rs 15 crore for the satellite rights.
