Who is Michael Avenatti?

Michael John Avenatti or Michael Avenatti, an American former attorney, is best known for representing pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels in her lawsuits against then-US President Donald Trump, as well as his attempted extortion of sports apparel company Nike, which resulted in him being convicted of several felonies.

His business has brought lawsuits against Fortune 500 companies and has represented a number of celebrities. As a legal and political analyst, as well as a representative for renowned clients, Avenatti has been frequently on broadcast television and in print. He has also competed in car races in both the United States and Europe.

Beginning in March 2019, Avenatti was indicted on federal charges in California and New York, including tax evasion, extortion, fraud, and embezzlement. Since May 4, 2020, he has been ineligible to practice law in California.

Avenatti was found guilty of all allegations against him in a New York court on February 14, 2020. While awaiting sentence for his extortion conviction in the New York case, Avenatti was imprisoned at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. He was facing a sentence of up to 40 years in jail.

Avenatti was briefly freed from prison in April 2020, with orders to return within 90 days, and placed under house arrest at a friend’s residence in California, due to healthcare concerns during the COVID-19 epidemic. He was sentenced to 30 months in jail on July 8, 2021.

In Los Angeles, California, the second of four federal criminal proceedings involving Avenatti began on July 21, 2021. Avenatti indicated that he would be defending himself and offered his own opening arguments throughout this proceeding.
