Why has Raavan flopped?

Mani Ratnam co-wrote, co-produced, and directed Raavan, a 2010 Indian action-adventure love film. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Vikram (in his Bollywood debut) in lead roles, and Govinda, Nikhil Dwivedi, Ravi Kishan, and Priyamani in major supporting parts.

The epic Ramayana is followed in the film, but with its own changed plot that is not to be confused with the original Ramayana, Story is nothing like the original. This is where ‘Raavan’ falls short, as a one-dimensional tale just does not convert into a two-hour picture that can keep your interest. If the objective was to bring out the split personality aspect of Abhishek’s nature in the films, it fails miserably.

Raavan

Aishwarya’s persona is riddled with paradoxes. Is she looking for a way to end her life? or is she not? It’s impossible to tell whether the outlaw (Abhishek Bachchan) is a Naxal, a militant, or a rebel. Yes, he is the tribal Messiah, but as it turns out, the entire drama focuses on his personal feud with the cop (Vikram).

Raavan’s Indian box office debut was ‘below expectations, with the Hindi version earning Rs 60.1 million on its first day. Raavan was released in 120 theatres across North America and debuted at No. 15 on the domestic weekend box office record with $760. The film was declared a flop by Box Office India.
