Karthi’s spy thriller sequel Sardar 2 is locked and loaded for theatres. The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared P. S. Mithran’s film with a U/A certificate, and Prince Pictures confirmed the news with a terse update: “Stillness before the Storm. #Sardar2 certified with U/A.” Worldwide release is set for September 10, 2026.
The film is a sequel to the 2022 hit Sardar, again directed by Mithran and produced by Prince Pictures with IVY Entertainment. Karthi and Rajisha Vijayan reprise their roles, joined by S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, and Ashika Ranganath. The cast also includes Shah Ra, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Babu Antony, and others, rounding out a crowded spy-action ensemble.
Where the first film dug into the commercialisation of water, Mithran is aiming at health and hygiene this time. At the trailer and audio launch, Karthi said audiences who still drink from plastic water bottles may not be able to ignore the film’s point once they see it — calling the underlying truth about health “bound to leave you shaken.” He also praised Mithran’s sincerity and said he hoped the film reaches as many viewers as possible.
Shooting wrapped in Bangkok after a long production that crossed 100 days, with story beats moving from Cambodia into China. George C. Williams handles cinematography, Sam C. S. scores the music, Vijay Velukutty edits, and Dhilip Subbarayan and Chethan D’Souza choreograph the action. The screenplay is credited to Rathna Kumar, Aashameera Aiyappan, and Vignesh Muniyandi.
With certification done and the calendar ticking toward September 10, Sardar 2 enters one of Tamil cinema’s busiest late-year corridors as a high-stakes spy sequel built around Karthi’s dual-timeline agent world and S. J. Suryah’s antagonist Black Dagger. For Kollywood audiences waiting on a big-screen espionage ride, the wait is nearly over.
