Netflix has officially confirmed The Inbetweeners 3, bringing back the original cast for a third film based on the hit British comedy franchise.
Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will reprise their roles as Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland and Simon Cooper. Series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are returning to write and direct.
Production has begun in the United Kingdom. Netflix’s announcement also offered a first look at the reunited cast, including the battered yellow Fiat Cinquecento associated with the original series.
The Inbetweeners originally aired on Channel 4 from 2008 to 2010 and followed four socially awkward friends navigating school, friendship and failed romantic encounters. The show later expanded into two successful films released in 2011 and 2014, both of which became major UK box-office hits.
No release date or plot details have been announced yet. Netflix has described the new project as a continuation of the popular sitcom and its two record-breaking films.
The reunion comes more than a decade after the last movie and 16 years after the television series ended. With the original quartet and creators back in place, the new film is positioned as a nostalgia-driven continuation for longtime viewers while introducing the franchise to a newer Netflix audience.
