Who is Andrew McCarthy?

Andrew Thomas McCarthy, also known as Andrew McCarthy, is an American actor, travel writer, and television director who was born on November 29, 1962. He is most known for his roles in the 1980s films St. Elmo’s Fire, Pretty in Pink, and Less Than Zero as a member of the Brat Pack. On VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Teen Stars of All Time, he is ranked No. 40. He is most known for his work as a director on the Emmy Award-winning show Orange Is the New Black.

McCarthy was the third of four boys born in Westfield, New Jersey. His mother worked for a newspaper, and his father dealt with stocks and finance. McCarthy attended Bernards High School and the Pingry School, a preparatory academy, in Bernardsville, New Jersey, when he was a youngster.

McCarthy’s first notable appearance was opposite Jacqueline Bisset in the 1983 comedy Class. He became inadvertently a part of the ‘Brat Pack,’ a 1980s Hollywood gang of young performers. The band appeared in several films, including St. Elmo’s Fire and Pretty in Pink. McCarthy starred in the 1987 films Mannequin and Less Than Zero, which were based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel of the same name.

McCarthy began her career as a travel writer and worked for National Geographic Traveler magazine as an Editor at Large. McCarthy was removed from an underground church in Lalibela, Ethiopia, in 2010 because he entered the site without proper documentation.

McCarthy married Carol Schneider, his undergraduate love, 20 years after they first dated. McCarthy married Dolores Rice, an Irish writer, and filmmaker, on August 28, 2011. Willow and Rowan are their two children.
