Celebrated filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recently opened up about his stance on remakes during the Movified Exclusive conversation and the message is clear: he’s not a fan of Remakes.
“As a director, it’s not very exciting to remake a film,” he said. “Agar achhi film bann gayi hai toh ussi ko dekh lo. Why remake it?” Imtiaz emphasized how today’s audience has become more accepting of subtitles and dubbing across languages, making the need for remakes less compelling than ever before.
However, when asked if he would ever consider his own films being remade, he named ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ and ‘Love Aaj Kal 2’. “There was so much in ‘Jab Harry Met Sajal’ that didn’t come through… and Love Aaj Kal 2 had a strong plot around modernity that wasn’t fully optimized. If these were reimagined with fresh packaging, they might come out beautifully.”
