Captain America: The First Avenger had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre on July 19, 2011, and was released in the United States on July 22, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase One. The movie was a financial success, generating more than $370 million worldwide. Evans’ performance, the film’s depiction of the 1940s historical period, and Johnston’s direction were all lauded by critics. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016) are the two sequels that have been released.
