Which camera does Hollywood use?

With more than a century of experience, ARRI has continued to set the bar for cinematic filmmaking. ARRI was popular from the 1920s to the 1940s, but it wasn’t until after WWII that it really took off, and Americans finally got their hands on the small ARRIFLEX 35 film cameras they’d heard so much about. By the 1960s and 1970s, several directors who dared to defy studio conventions were using ARRIFLEX 35 cameras. Martin Scorsese utilized the ARRIFLEX 35 BL in Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.

The ARRIFLEX 435 and 535 models were the next big camera success in the 1990s. Star Wars: Episode I, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Fifth Element, Hot Fuzz, and The Avengers were all captured on these two cameras. By the year 2000, the ARRICAM has shot films such as Children of Men, Munich, Brokeback Mountain, Casino Royale, The Departed, and a series of Harry Potter movies.

That takes us to the first ALEXA, ARRI’s revolutionary digital camera, which was released in the 2010s. The ALEXA line remains the industry standard, having captured recent blockbusters like Rogue One, The Revenant, Arrival, The Jungle Book, Creed, and practically every Marvel Cinematic Universe picture.

The DSMC2 system was published in 2015, and since then, RED has attempted to simplify its name structure. Several sensor types are available for the DSMC2 brain: Monstro 8K VV, Helium 8K S35, Gemini 5K S35, and Dragon-X 5K S35.

RED cameras have been increasingly popular among commercial and independent filmmakers, and they’ve been employed on major motion pictures, particularly for VFX-heavy parts.
