Bindiya Goswami, an Indian former actress, was born on January 6, 1957, and is best known for her work in Hindi film during the 1970s and 1980s. Hema Malini’s mother spotted Bindiya at a party while she was a teenager. She saw a resemblance between Bindiya and Hema and recommended her to film producers. Bindiya’s debut Hindi film was Jeevan Jyoti, in which she starred alongside Vijay Arora. Despite the failure of the film, Bindiya went on to star in filmmaker Basu Chatterjee’s Khatta Meetha (1977) and Prem Vivah (1979).

Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s comedy film Gol Maal was her biggest hit (1979). Bindiya has started creating costumes for female stars including Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor, and Aishwarya Rai in J.P. Dutta’s films like Border (1997), Refugee (2000), LOC Kargil (2003), and Umrao Jaan (2007).
Bindiya was married to Vinod Mehra, one of her frequent co-stars, for four years before divorcing. Bindiya then gave up her acting career in 1985 to marry filmmaker J.P. Dutta, with whom she has two children, Nidhi and Siddhi.
