Vismaya Mohanlal’s debut is heading from theatres to streaming. The Malayalam action thriller Thudakkam will begin streaming exclusively on JioHotstar from September 18, after a strong theatrical run that opened on August 7.
Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, the film marks dual debuts: Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya in the lead, and producer Antony Perumbavoor’s son Aashish Joe Antony as the antagonist. Vismaya plays Meenu, a young martial arts coach whose act of kindness — helping two schoolgirls get home safely — draws the attention of a dangerous stalker and turns into a fight for survival. Aashish essays the cold-blooded criminal at the centre of that threat.
The ensemble also includes Sai Kumar, Bobby Kurian and Manoj K. Jayan in key roles, with Mohanlal in a special cameo as Meenu’s martial arts master — a crowd-pleasing beat that includes a fight designed for the gallery. Co-written by Jude Anthany Joseph, Akhil Krishna and Linish Nellikkal, Thudakkam blends psychological stalker tension with home-invasion action, and both newcomers drew praise for their stunt work after the film’s August release.
For OTT audiences, the digital window is multilingual. Coverage around the JioHotstar announcement notes that dubbed Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi versions are expected alongside the Malayalam original, widening the reach for a debut that already travelled well in cinemas. Critic response to the theatrical cut was largely favourable, even where some noted the film’s broad-strokes storytelling.
