First loves, messy friendships, and the kind of bad decisions that somehow still feel like growing up — Don’t Be Shy has dropped its official trailer, and Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions is putting a fresh YA cast front and centre. The coming-of-age romantic comedy premieres on Prime Video on September 25, in Hindi with English subtitles, across India and more than 240 countries and territories.
Directed by Sreeti Mukerji and produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt, the film follows Shyamili “Shy” Das (Aarushi Bajaj), a meticulously planned college life that unravels when boyfriend Mayank (Piyush Khati) walks away. Caught between leftover feelings for the campus golden boy and her estranged childhood friend Dhruv (Ansh Duggal), Shy’s reset gets even messier when Tara (Bianca Arora) lands in the same orbit — Mayank’s new girlfriend and, uncomfortably, a possible new ally. Supporting turns come from Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu, Neha Dhupia and Anju Alva Naik.
Alia framed the film as a snapshot of “first loves, best friends, heartbreaks, bad decisions” — the emotional clutter that makes adulthood feel so close and so unfinished. Mukerji has called Don’t Be Shy a tribute to the comfort rom-coms she grew up on: stories you return to when you want to feel safe, entertained, and a little less alone on the brink of growing up. Aarushi Bajaj has said stepping into Shy’s shoes pushed her out of her own comfort zone — a character far from her real self, and one she wanted to honour fully before audiences meet her on September 25.
Co-produced by Grishma Shah and Vikesh Bhutani, Don’t Be Shy is less about reinventing the love triangle than about letting new faces own it. For Movified readers mapping the late-September OTT calendar, this is the Alia-backed rom-com date to circle: trailer out now, full film on Prime Video September 25.
