Social media chatter this week suggested Salman Khan’s long-delayed war drama Maatrubhumi might finally face the Central Board of Film Certification next week. A Bollywood Hungama exclusive dated September 15, 2026 says those reports are premature: there is still no CBFC screening lined up, and the film remains stuck over its China connection.
A source told the trade site, “I wish these reports were true. But with a heavy heart, I’d like to inform you that there has sadly been no update about its CBFC screening. The film is still stuck due to its China connection.” The same source said the makers are in touch with relevant government officials and that once a solution is found, certification and a theatrical path can follow — but the timeline could be days, weeks, or longer.
Originally announced as Battle of Galwan and later rechristened Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, the project draws on the 2020 India–China border conflict. Earlier reporting from the same outlet had flagged Ministry of Defence reservations as bilateral relations improved, including the possibility that the word “China” may not appear in the finished film. In July, after delay talk pointed toward 2027, Salman Khan Films released a fresh poster confirming a 2026 theatrical window — without naming a firm date.
Asked whether 2026 or 2027 is more likely now, the Hungama source said it depends entirely on when the issues are resolved. If clearance comes soon, the makers will still try for a 2026 release despite tight vacant slots; otherwise the film could slip into 2027.
